December 23, 2018 Episode 2 (UK Original Air Date September 24,2007)

Jane looks at the suitcase and the phone rings. Elsewhere, Shirley wakes up with a strange man in her bed after a drunken night. Outside the Vic, Ronnie comes tosses out the trash and spies a moving truck pull up.

Peter and Lucy are giving Jane a hard time about Ian’s whereabouts. Jane tells them that he just needed some time alone. They whinge about the things that he promised them they’d go on holiday. Jane tells them they need to get ready for school as she has to get to the cafe for a delivery. Peter wants to stay home, and Lucy agrees stating everyone thinks they are on holiday anyway. Jane tells Peter to go and get ready. She asks Lucy to get Bobby to school. Lucy refuses and says she is not going to school. Jane tells her she doesn’t have time for this. Lucy tells her she can’t make her. Jane tells Lucy that she will not tell her again. Lucy storms upstairs as the phone is ringing. Jane follows behind. It’s the resort they are meant to be staying at declaring that it’s now a cancellation since no one has checked in.

The man at Shirley’s is looking for coffee when she walks into the kitchen. He introduces himself and the doorbell rings. He says he’ll get it and thanks for everything.

Sean asks Stacey what time her boyfriend is coming over. She tells him 11:30. He says he’ll make sure he’s well out of the way. She tells Sean that he can’t avoid their mum forever, she will be at the wedding after all.

Jane is heading to the cafe and thanks Pat for helping out. She lets Pat know she still has heard nothing from Ian. As she arrives at the cafe, the delivery truck drives away. She chases after, but he continues on.

Ronnie is reviewing the paperwork with the delivery van. It seems Damian has shipped all their belongings money due on receipt to the tune of 600 pounds. Roxy is busy looking at old cd’s and happy until she finds out how much it will cost.

Shirley’s landlord comes round for the rent. She opens a jar that Sam had put back on the shelf and realizes he’s taken the money. The landlord gives her until the end of the day.

Inside the Vic Peggy, Phil and Ronnie are trying to sort out rooms and where all the stuff is going. Peggy says she will make the family a proper meal.

Sean, Stacey, and Bradly are busy planning the wedding. Stacey tells him that Max paying makes her uncomfortable. Bradley offers to pay for her dress himself. She refuses. Billy comes in complaining that he has no stock for the fruit and veg. Jane tells him to take the day off and yeah he’ll still be paid.

Jase tells Jay he’s proud of him and how far he can go in life. Jase tells him he’ll take him for a pizza after school. Jay asks if he’s going to rob a bank while he’s at school. Jay walks off towards school.

Shirley is looking for money from Dean, but he only has two quid. Jase sees the help wanted sign at the laundrette. Shirley is asking Yolande for help, and she tells her about the job at the laundrette while Honey is on maternity leave.

Pat and Jane are talking about the fact she hasn’t heard from Ian. Pat thinks it’s a bit strange. Jane is frustrated and kicks everyone out of the cafe. Pat asks her what she’s doing? Jane tells her that she is going for a drink.

Stacey and Jean are looking through bridal magazines. Jean asks where Sean is. Stacey covers for him. Jean notices a page is marked and wonders if it is the one Stacey wants. Stacey says it is, but it’s too expensive. She says there are others in the back that are half price. Jean tells her she should have the one she wants. Stacey tells her you can’t always have what you want. Jean offers to make it for her.

Jane is in the Vic having a drink with Pat. Pat wonders if Ian might have had a nervous breakdown. Jane declares if anyone deserves to have a nervous breakdown it’s her. She’s left with three kids, three businesses and an incontinent mutt to deal with.

Billy and Phil come into the pub. Billy is still waging a campaign against Jase. Phil tells him he told Ben he can hang out with Jay, but he’s not to go around Jase. Billy is pleased. Phil notices Jane already drinking. Billy tells him that they were meant to be on holiday, but Beale has done a runner to South Africa. Billy tells Phil he’s got the day and most likely the whole week off and can help if he needs a hand. Phil tells him he’s giving the video shop a revive and he could help there. They plan to meet at 5 pm. Shirley comes in, and Peggy tells her she was supposed to be there earlier for their meeting. Peggy tells Shirley that she gives her no choice, but she has to cut her hours. Shirley wonders what she will do. Peggy tells her to cocoa and cozy nights in. Pat calls Ian and asks him to please call her the minute he gets the message.

Upstairs the girls place their stuff in Ben’s room. He’s reviewing the family tree and ask them about their mum and dad.

Shirley goes to the laundrette, and Dot agrees to give her a trial.

Jay comes round to ask Ben over. Ben tells him he would but his dad. Jay tells him it doesn’t matter that he only came round because his other mates were busy.

Jane is drunk in the pub, and Pat tells her that she can drink herself into oblivion and she just hopes that Ian has not gone and done something stupid.

Billy comes round to gather the washing. Shirley finishes and Dot inspects it all. Dot replies it’s an excellent job and she feels terrible that she isn’t paying her. Shirley tells her that it’s ok so long as she gets the job. Dot explains it’s not that easy as Mr. Oppodopolus has to agree and he’s off on a family holiday. Shirley is frustrated. Dot feels terrible and tries to give her some cigarettes as payment. Jase comes in and asks about the job.

Stacey is on the phone when Sean comes in. Stacey is talking to Bradley about how she can’t stop her mum now. Sean says she won’t stop her though. Sean offers to walk Stacey down the aisle. She thinks he doesn’t do things like this. He tells her it’s the new me maybe? She tells him she was going to ask Uncle Charlie. Sean is clearly disappointed and covers by saying he dodged a bullet.

Jane leaves a message for Ian and asks him to please come home.

Jase and Shirley discuss finding a job around the square. Dean bangs on the door of the cafe. Shirley takes note and goes to Jane. Shirley tries to cheer her up. She butters Jane up and tells her she should book a relaxing holiday. She offers to work at the cafe while Jane is gone.

Jase walks into the pub to see Phil. Phil tells him if it’s about Ben. Jase stops him and says he understands. He starts to ask him for something and then says to forget it. Phil calls him back. Jase lays it out on the table about how hard it has been trying to get back on his feet. Phil tells him he’s never seen him smile. The whole time he’s been around he’s never seen him crack a smile. He tells Jase it gives people a wrong impression. He names off serial killers Ted Bundy, Charlie Manson. Jase cracks a smile and Phil softens. Jase asks if what he’s supposed to do is just tell everyone why he was in prison. Phil tells him to try him.

Jane is having second thoughts. Shirley talks her round after explaining she never had a regret about leaving her kids with Kevin. Jane decides to go for it. Jane sees that there is a message and listens to it. She tells Shirley something is wrong. Shirley tries to say it’s ok he probably went elsewhere, but Jane stops her and says that she doesn’t know her husband. He would never lose a deposit. She orders Shirley to wait there for the kids she’s off to the police.

Jean is pinning material haphazardly to Stacey and talking about how her Dad would be so proud. Jean has a bit of a meltdown when she can’t find the measuring tape. Stacey calms her and hands it to her. She realizes her mum can’t handle the pressure of making the dress.

Roxy and Ronnie are bickering when they come into the kitchen where Phil is working. Peggy comes in demanding room on the table. Phil grabs up his work and sorts the room situation out, and the girls still bicker. He tells them he doesn’t care which room they have but enough already. Peggy says it’s wonderful because they can enjoy a nice family dinner now. Phil says he’s taking Ben out for a treat meal. Peggy says “the shouting, the fighting, it’s all too much. Just like the old days!” The girls say they are sorry. She tells them it’s been ages since she’s had a proper girls night in.

Jane talks to the police, but they don’t seem too worried but tell her to come back. The kids come home and find Shirley there. Lucy asks her what she’s doing there. Shirley replies “babysitting.” Lucy tells her they don’t smoke. Not in this house.

Sean comes into Bradley, Stacey, and Jean discussing the wedding dress. Bradley tries to tell her he won’t have her working so hard. Sean comes in and says Stacey doesn’t want a dress. Stacey and Bradley look shocked. Sean tells Jean that they are having a themed wedding. Star Trek in fact. Bradley and Stacey are relieved.

Ben is chatting with his Dad about bunking together. He’s excited about it and says they could get bunk beds. Billy and Jase are waiting at the video shop. Billy wonders what Jase is doing there. Phil tells him that he hired him to do the job with Billy. Billy refuses to work with Jase. Phil tells him that is fine as Jase can do the job on his on. Billy relents. Phil says he’s taking Ben for a burger. Ben asks if Jay can come. Jay tells him that he and his dad are having pizza. Jase sends him on with Phil and Ben saying they can do it another night. Jay is proud of his Dad and Jase is feeling good too.

Lucy is whinging about how embarrassing it is that everyone wonders why they aren’t on holiday. She calls him selfish. Jane says he’s the farthest thing from selfish. Lucy says she hopes he’s gone far far away and hopes he’s dead. Jane finds Ian’s passport in a drawer.
