September 16, 2019 Episode 2 (UK Original Air Date January 28, 2008)

Minty fuses over Hazel to try to get her to eat breakfast. She tells him she will try to eat something later and to stop fussing. She’s determined to beat the other couple, and she needs to lose weight. Minty tells her he likes her just the way she is. She tells him that the camera adds ten pounds. She heads off to work. She makes sure that he’s told, Heather. She asks if he is ok with it. Minty doesn’t speak.
Heather opens a package and pulls out a pink cowgirl hat and a blue cowboy hat. She’s trying them on over her head when Shirley walks in. Shirley asks Heather what she is doing? Heather tells her that they are for Hazel and Minty. Shirley sees the receipt and asks Heather if she’s lost her mind as it was 50 quid. Heather reckons it will help her get closer to Garry as a bridesmaid. She tells Shirley she’s off to take them to Minty and Hazel’s. Shirley teases her and says maybe she’ll run into Garry.
Peggy walks into the front room and inquires if there was still no word? Roxy tells Peggy that still nothing and Ronnie’s mobile is off. Peggy tells Roxy that Ronnie will come back when she is ready. Peggy asks her to come downstairs and help her. Roxy spies Jack opening the door to the cafe for two women. She runs off as Peggy asks where she is going.
Tam comes home and finds the urgent and delinquent bills Zainab has been hiding. Shabnam and Zainab come in, and he slams the book closed quickly. Zainab is yelling at Shabnam for failing to tell her about an upcoming exam. She is harsh in her words and asks Shabs why she can’t be more like her A star brother. Zainab wonders why he isn’t in school yet. He tells her that he is on his way and tries to ask her a question, but she goes on about her A star student and Shabs should be heading to the library to study. She rushes them off.
Roxy catches up with Jack and the two women. She wonders out loud if he’s already found his next victims. Jack sends the young ladies off and says, Good Morning Roxanne. Roxy wonders if he had a good time last night. He smirks. She tells him she saw him and his not so ex-wife. She wonders if he’s going to try to tell her that she was just giving his desk a hand polish. She tells Jack that she will tell Ronnie what she saw when she gets back. Jack says it doesn’t matter as Ronnie seems to have had enough of him and has cleared off. Roxy tells Jack that though that maybe she will still tell Ronnie about what she saw just to wipe that smug grin off his face. Jack tells Roxy that there was him thinking she was just looking out for Ronnie. Despite what she thinks she saw or didn’t see, she’ll have a tough time proving it. Jack walks away, and Christian walks towards her. Roxy grabs him and tells Christian she needs his help with something.
Garry comes into the cafe and finds Minty there. Garry asks him if he intends to work today or has Phil installed flex hours? Minty looks up at Garry and asks him if he’s noticed anything odd about his mum lately? Garry replies beyond the fact that she’s a fifty-year-old Dolly Parton fanatic who’s taken up with his best mate? Odd is what she does best. Minty tells him they need to get to work before Phil gets on their backsides. Meanwhile, Hazel is heading to the surgery but doesn’t go in. Heather catches up with her and asks if she is alright?
Shabs is spying on her mum and waits for her to leave.
Christian and Roxy sneak into the club, and she finds the CCTV DVD from the night Jack slept with Selena. Jack walks in and catches them. He tells them to leave. Roxy tells Christian to leave, and she will catch up with him. She tells Jack she will tell Ronnie. Jack tells Roxy that it doesn’t look like Ronnie will care as she’s done with him. Roxy walks out, and Christian wonders what that was all about?
Hazel tells Heather she doesn’t know how to tell Minty. Hazel tells her that he might not want to marry her after he finds out. Heather tells her that he loves her, of course, he will still love her and want to marry her. Hazel tells Heather what a sweet friend she’s been to her. Even after knowing she won’t be her bridesmaid anymore. Heather is shocked.
Shabs takes out a stack of cash and puts it back in the envelope. She pulls out two travel books and settles onto the settee to read them. At work, Zainab answers questions on the phone from a bill collector while a customer waits. She apologizes and finishes his transaction. While he carefully counts out the thirty-two pence, she asks him if she could interest him in insurance. He walks out as she calls out “home, car, pet, life.” She pulls out a pamphlet for debt counseling.
Jack is destroying a DVD as Roxy walks in. She asks if he’s destroying company property, what would the owner say? He says he used to be on good terms with the owner. Ronnie walks towards him and kisses him. He says maybe he still is and they clear off the desk.
Roxy and Christian discuss the purpose of telling Ronnie what she knows. Christian cautions her from hurting Ronnie further. Roxy plans a night on the town with Christian.
Minty is telling his woes to Phil. Phil tells him he should just talk to Hazel. Hazel comes storming into the arches screaming at Minty about the fact she’s just had to tell a devastated Heather she isn’t going to be a bridesmaid. Something he was to have done but didn’t! Minty agrees he should have told her he hadn’t told Heather, but he has had a lot on his mind. Hazel glares at him and says he’s not the only one. She slams out of the arches, and Minty looks at Phil and says, “See what I mean?” Phil tells him if he’s that worried about her he should go and talk to a doctor. Minty says ok and goes to head off, but Phil tells him not until his lunch break.
Garry pops into the cafe and finds Heather. He wonders what’s happened and asks if the Minut Mart ran out of cheese. She tells him that Hazel and Minty don’t want her to be a bridesmaid, they want Dawn. Heather leaves, and Garry tells her to keep her chin up, you know every cloud. He smiles as he’s right pleased it’s Dawn.
Jack tells Ronnie she is full of surprises. She says she likes to keep her men on their toes. She tells him that she would have understood about Penny if he’d just been straight with her. He says she shouldn’t have gone behind his back. She agrees. Ronnie says she should be getting back, face the music and all. Jack asks her if this means they are back together? She tells Jack they are, but she’d like to keep it between them for now. He asks if she’s ashamed of him? Ronnie tells him, no, but she could do without Roxy in her ear right now. She tells him she’ll make it up to him later.
Shabs is on the phone and says the trip is going to be amazing! She wonders when they are booking their tickets. The door opens, and she says she’s got to go. She slams the bag of money into her purse. Tam wonders why she isn’t at the library? She wonders why he’s a snoop? He asks her what all this stuff is on the table (travel books). She clears her throat and tells him she is going away. He wonders why she wants to go away? Shabs tells him she wants to see what is out there, find some answers. Tam wonders what answers she’s looking for? Shabs tells Tam that she wonders if it will help her know what to do with her life. She tells him it’s always been easier for him and Seyed have always known what they want to do with their life, but she hasn’t. Tam tells her this might not be the best time with Dad being away. He wonders where she’s going to get the money. She tells him that is where he comes in. Tam wonders why him?
Heather has a large chunk of Emmenthal cheese and slices into it. Shirley comes in and wonders what Heather is doing there and not at work? Heather tells her it’s all gone wrong. The old saying goes, “always a bridesmaid.” Heather cries that she’s not even good enough for that now!
Hazel is at the desk of the salon and with an upset customer who she incorrectly booked. The customer walks out. Hazel stands up and is dizzy.
Tam is holding the money Shabs has saved. He wonders where she got it all? Shabs tells him that she saved it. Shabs tells him she needs another five hundred. He wonders where she’s going to get it. She asks him to help her by asking their mum for it. If she asks, it’s a sure no, but if he asks, then she’ll say yes. Tam is not sure but is pressured to help.
Ronnie walks into the private entrance of the pub. Peggy is pleased to see her back. Ronnie asks if she’s missed her? Peggy says, not actually. Ronnie thanks her for the warm welcome. Peggy tells her only because it was a quiet weekend without Ronnie and Roxy tearing lumps out of each other. Ronnie smiles and asks where Roxy is. Peggy tells Ronnie that she’s on the bar. Ronnie says she’d like a shower first before chatting with her. Peggy says it’s not a problem but when they do talk to please keep it to a dull roar.
Minty leaves the surgery with a pamphlet on eating disorders.
Shirley is on a mission to set Hazel straight on mistreating Heather. Heather calls out to Shirley to stop as she doesn’t want any fuss. Shirley bust into the salon demanding to know why Hazel thought she could treat Heather that way? She tells Hazel that Heather has been a good mate to her and she wouldn’t even be this far in or even in the competition if it weren’t for Heather. Hazel tells her she’s sorry and looks poorly. Shirley says “sure she is a bit on the chunky side and don’t look like Julia Roberts, no offense Heav (Heather replies none taken), but she’s been a damn good mate to her. Hazel says she’s not feeling well. Shirley tells her she will be feeling a damn bit worse when she’s done with her. Hazel falls into Shirley. Shirley yells at Heather to get some water. Heather is calling Minty. Hazel begs her not to.
Peggy walks upon Christian and Roxy have a jolly time at the bar. Peggy mentions its nice to see her more chipper and lets her know that Ronnie is back.
Tam is startled when his mum wonders why he’s at the post office and not school. He says that he is there to help and since Dad left him in charge he’s going to.
Ronnie walks out to find Roxy waiting on her. Roxy asks where she’s been. Ronnie tells her she went away for a few days to clear her head. Roxy asks her if she’s cleared of Jack. Ronnie tells her it’s done and dusted. Roxy hugs her and apologizes for saying all those things. She’s just happy Ronnie’s figured out what a loser Jack was. Roxy gives her back her necklace, and they hug.
Heather is taking care of Hazel. Shirley wonders why Heather is taking care of Hazel after what she’s done to her. Hazel says Shirley is right. Heather says she can’t abandon Hazel in her hour of need. Shirley tells her if she’s determined to stay and play Florence Nightengale she can, but she’s going down to the pub. Shirley stomps out. Hazel tells Heather she can go with her if she likes. Heather says no she can’t leave her like this. Hazel thanks her and says she doesn’t deserve it after the way she treated her. Hazel apologizes and asks Heather to be her bridesmaid again. Heather agrees but begs Hazel to tell Minty about her issue. Hazel agrees that she will tell him tonight but begs Heather not to tell anyone she’s fainted.
Tam finishes with a customer and tells his mum that’s how you cross sale. He tells his mum that dad always says take care of the pennies, and the pounds will take care of themselves. Zainab looks at him and says he’s a good boy. He looks at her and tells her he told her he’d help. She turns and cries, “my child, my sweet, sweet child.” Tam is worried.
Roxy comes in and asks Ronnie for her opinion on her dress choices. Roxy tries to lure Ronnie out with her and Christian. Ronnie tells her she fancies a quiet night in. Roxy stops and tells her she’s glad to have her back.
Tam comes home and disappoints Shabs that he didn’t ask. She comes up with a plan to cook a nice meal to butter their mum up, and he can ask tonight. Tam yells at Shabs and says they need to talk about their mum.
Shirley is chatting with Heather and can’t believe she’s said yes to being a bridesmaid again. Shirley tells her after what Hazel did to her she’d have told her to stick it. Heather says there is no way she’s going to let sticky little Dawn get her hooks into Garry. She tells Shirley not to be too hard as Hazel has a lot on her mind. Besides Hazel apologized. Shirley tells her so does everyone else. She gets up to get some fags and Minty comes in and asks if he can have a word with her about Hazel. He apologizes for not telling her about the bridesmaid business. She tells him it’s ok as Hazel apologized and she’s back on board as a bridesmaid. He asks Heather if she’s noticed anything about Hazel. Heather acts dodgy and tries to avoid answering his question. He suspects she knows something. Heather tells him he should talk to Hazel. He says to her that she does know something! Shirley walks up and tells Minty he should be at home tending the sick, but not to worry too much as she wasn’t out cold for more than thirty seconds or so. Minty goes racing out and Heather thanks Shirley for nothing. Shirley wonders what she’s done wrong.
Shabnam doesn’t believe Tam and asks why their mum hasn’t said anything? Tam tells her she doesn’t want her to know. Shabs is angry that she trusted Tam and not her. Tam tells her that their mum needs their help, and she’s not giving up her money. Surely it can’t be that bad. Tam tells Shabs that he’s never seen her like this and their mum is very scared.
Roxy and Christian are heading out for their big night. Roxy stops suddenly. Christian wonders whats going on. She sees Ronnie kissing Jack as they enter his flat.
Minty comes rushing in telling Hazel he’s just heard she passed out. She tells him it wasn’t for that long and it wasn’t anything. She wonders how he heard. He tells her it was Shirley. She tells him it is nothing to worry about. He tells her he’s noticed things going on with her lately, and if she doesn’t talk about it with him, there are people who can help. He pulls out the Eating Disorder pamphlet. She tells him she’s not anorexic she’s… He wonders what and Hazel tells him she’s pregnant.
