Ronnie comes out of the bathroom as Jack brings her coffee. He offers to go back to bed. She turns him down in order to get back home before Roxy comes home. Jack says if Roxy winds her up so much, why doesn’t she move in with him. As much as Ronnie likes the offer, she turns him down.
Christian and Roxy come home laughing about the men they met the night before. Roxy sees Ronnie walking in the square. She looks at Christian and says him (meaning Jack) she can understand as a liar but her, not Ronnie? Why would she lie to her? She determines she’s going to march right over to tell Ronnie everything. Christian stops her and reminds her that people always shoot the messenger. Roxy says she will have it out with Jack then. Christian agrees to it but tells her not to do it in the state she’s in.
Minty is singing as he prepares breakfast. He tells Hazel that they should start thinking about names. Hazel tells him to steady on there “daddy” as it’s early days. Minty asks if she’s ok with all of this? She says she is and women at 52 have babies all the time. She knows it won’t be plain sailing though. He says yeah, Garry. Hazel says it won’t be comfortable telling him. They agree not to tell anyone until after her visit with the doctor.
Ronnie comes in, and Roxy comes through from the bar. Ronnie says she’s home late. Roxy replies that Ronnie is up early. Roxy asks if she had a nice night last night. Ronnie says, yes it was. Just her and a DVD. Ronnie asks her what she watched? Ronnie replies that she watched Pretty Woman. Roxy says Ronnie could never resist a sob story. Ronnie offers to make her breakfast, but Roxy says she’s just lost her appetite. Roxy storms off to take care of something. Peggy comes down the stairs, wondering what the fuss was about. Peggy tells Ronnie she thought her and Roxy worked everything out. Ronnie says she thought they did, but one minute it’s all hugs and the next it’s shouting.
Dot comes home from seeing Jim.
Jack is on the phone with someone and asks if they’ve spoken to his sister. He says he will speak to her. Roxy comes in and tells Jack she needs to speak with him. She tells him that she told him to stay away from Ronnie. Jack tells Roxy that Ronnie came to him. Roxy supposes it was Ronnie’s idea to lie to her about them as well. He replies that actually, it was Ronnie’s idea. Roxy doesn’t believe him. She tells him she’s going to have to tell Ronnie he cheated. He tells Roxy that she would be denying Ronnie of the first bit of happiness she’s had in a long time. Roxy yells that she will be the one to tell her not him. Jack tells Roxy that he believes she’s doing this for all the wrong reasons. He surmises that Roxy can’t handle being sidelined and not the center of Ronnie’s universe. Jack suspects she’d hate any man Ronnie dated. Jack says he made a mistake with Selena, they have a history, and it was complicated. But we all make mistakes he tells her. Ronnie wants to be with him enough to lie to her about it. If she’s important to her, then she’ll keep quiet.
Dot in is the kitchen having some tea. She sits and pushes the record button on a tape player. She says, “Hello, Jim, it’s me, Dorothy.” She stops and puts her face in her hands.
Minty and Garry are discussing Hazel not feeling well. Minty tells him that if there is anything to it, then the doctors will pick up on it. Garry knows there is something wrong now as his mum hates doctors. Garry demands to know if she is ill. Minty says she’s not ill. Hazel is pregnant. Garry goes white, and Minty grins.
Jack pops by Dot’s to check on her and see how things went. Dot says that is ever so nice of him. She says he’ll have to take her as he sees her as she’s not time to freshen up. She offers him some tea or coffee. Jack sees the tape recorder. He asks her what it is. She says she doesn’t know what it’s doing there. Jack says he hasn’t seen one of these since he was a kid trying to be a spy. He teases Dot that she’s not trying to break into the espionage business, is she? Dot says oh no I ain’t go me aerial in the attic. She tells him it’s actually for his father. The doctors think that it would be a good idea to get some voices of the family of friends to lift his spirits because it’s ever so lonely in there. Jack offers to get it started. He says: “Hello Dad, it’s Jack. You know your favorite son, the good looking one that takes after you. Listen, we all miss you. So hurry up and get better. And stop giving them nurses the runaround. Love you, Dad.” Dot tells him that his Dad will enjoy that. Jack says it will be good for him to hear some familiar voices. Especially with him coming out of the hospital. Dot says he knows about that? Jack tells Dot that the head of the hospital called him. Dot tells him she sees. Jack wonders if she’s decided what she’s going to do.
Ronnie comes in and finds Roxy laying on the sofa. She asks Roxy if she’s still doing the grumpy teenager act? She tells her she hopes she’s going to clear this lot up. Roxy replies, “yes, Mum!” Ronnie asks her if she’s seen her pink jumper. Roxy says no. Ronnie calls Roxy out on wearing her pink jumper and lying. Roxy says, “ME Lying?” Ronnie tells her she doesn’t find her very funny anymore and tosses the jumper back on to Roxy’s lap.
Dot tells Jack she can’t see what the choice is, she can’t put Jim in a home. Jack says he will need constant care. Dot tells him she will just have to manage, and the nurses will come in, and his friends will rally round. Jack reminds her that Jim might not want his friends to see him like that. He reminds her that his Dad is a prideful man. Jack replies to Dot that there are some great nursing homes out there and if it’s a question of money, then he can help. Dot tells him it’s not about the money. Jim belongs there, in his home, with her. Jack agrees if she is sure. Dot says with the help of Jesus and his guidance she’ll find her way through.
Garry is in the pub drinking when he should be working. Phil tells him that the cars don’t fix themselves, you know. Garry looks at Phil and tells him he’s taking the afternoon off for a compassionate reason. Phil doesn’t understand. Garry tells him he can’t work with Minty anymore. Phil wonders if they’ve fallen out over the wedding? Garry tells him it’s worse than that. The worst. Garry tells him that Minty’s gotten his mum pregnant. Phil starts to laugh. Garry doesn’t see the humor and asks Phil how he’d like it if sayMinty had knocked his mum up. Phil says, OI! Watch it! Do you want a slap? Garry says, “oh you’re not smiling now are ya? Because it’s no laughing matter! How would you like it if you were going to have a little brother or sister 37 years your junior? I mean the next thing you know I’ll be on the Jeremy Kyle show. And then they’ll enter into some sort of dream birth competition.” Phil tries to alert Garry to the fact that Minty’s walked in. Minty tells Garry that he knows this is unexpected and all, but they just want him to be happy for them. Garry tells him he’d just gotten his head wrapped around them getting married but this… well it’s just sick.
Hazel comes out of the doctor and starts to call Minty but hangs up.
Ronnie is getting the cash drawer out of the safe. She’s in a mood. Jack asks if it was something he said. She tells him no, it’s living with Roxy. He brings up his offer of living with him. She isn’t sure what would be better. He says it beats living with Roxy until they are old and knitting and all. Ronnie laughs and says, as opposed to bringing him his slippers. He invites her to a late lunch to celebrate her moving in. She tells him he’s sure of himself. He says he’ll know her answer when or if she shows up.
Dot is explaining the recorder to Peggy. She tells her it will help lift his spirits and recovery. She says it must be a great comfort that he is so well looked after there. Dot stops to think about that and agrees he is well looked after there. Dot asks Peggy to leave him a message. Peggy says: ” Hello Jim. It’s Peggy here. You hurry up and get well. My takings are well down without you around. Place at the same without you. But seriously, hurry up and get well and there will be lots of free drinks waiting for you when you do. Lots of love! Ta Ra Love Ta Ra.” Dot tells her how he’ll appreciate that and Peggy is called away by a punter. Dot stops to take a sip of her tomato juice. Peggy finds Ronnie coming in as she grabs a bag of crisp. Ronnie tells her that she is moving out. Peggy says that she only meant for the arguing to stop and not for her to move out. Ronnie tells her it’s for the best. Peggy asks her where she’s going. Ronnie tells her that she’s moving in with Jack. Peggy asks if she’s sure. Ronnie tells her she is. Peggy asks her what Roxy thinks and realizes Ronnie hasn’t told her. She demands Ronnie tells her before she moves because she isn’t going to clean up the pieces of that mess.
Phil and Minty are discussing the baby and the shock of it all. Phil wonders if Minty is happy. Minty says that he is. He never thought it was going to happen to him. He is well pleased about the things he never thought he was going to experience. He’s got a beautiful wife, he’s going to have a kid and a family of his own. It’s more than he ever hoped for. Phil is well pleased for him.
Yolande is leaving a message for Jim. She says, “Hello, Jimmy boy, it’s Yolande. We are all missing you so very much. But I know with the love of Dorothy you will soon make a full recovery and be back here making mischief with his good friend Patrick. Take care, and God Bless.” Dot says that it will make him laugh. Yolande wonders if there is any word on when he will get out of the hospital. Dot avoids the answer and says no. Yolande says that Patrick would probably love to make a recording. Dot says she’s forgotten all about him and asks Yolande to hold the fort and starts to run out. Yolande stops her and hands her the recorder. Dot says she’d lose her head if it weren’t attached.
Ronnie is all packed. She walks into the living room, and Roxy asks where she’s going. Ronnie tells her, “away from you. I’m moving in with Jack.” Roxy tells her she’ll clean up and she can have her jumper back. Ronnie tells Roxy not to play the little girl lost card. Roxy begs her to reconsider. Ronnie tells her it’s too late as it’s been arranged. Roxy tells her that it can be unarranged. Ronnie tells her that she’s spent too long cleaning up after her and it’s time for her to stand on her own. Roxy again begs her not to move in with him. Ronnie tells Roxy that she can’t stand her being happy. She’s got a man of her own that loves her, and she’s not going to let Roxy spoil it. Roxy yells out as Ronnie walks away from that he slept with Selena. Ronnie turns to her with a glare.
Jack is waiting at the restaurant. He orders a bottle of champagne.
Ronnie tells Roxy she is lying. Roxy tells her she is not, he slept with Selena. Ronnie tells her she’s lying to keep her from leaving. Roxy says she is telling the truth. Ronnie tells her that would be a first. Roxy tells her that she saw them with her own eyes, Friday night at the club on the desk. Ronnie tells her she doesn’t believe her. Roxy tells what kind of hold does he have over you? This is me, I wouldn’t lie to you, not about something like this. Ronnie tells her she’s leaving. Roxy tells her, “fine! Have it your way but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Dot plays the recording from Patrick. “Alright there Jim, you old Devil you. Hey, this is your old drinking pal here. Patrick yah man. Dot has me talking into this contraption here, but I’d rather be down at the bookies with you cheering on our winner. So hurry up and come, home man, because there is a whole lot of cheering to be had. It will be just like old times. Yeah, man.”
Ronnie comes into the restaurant, and Jack is all smiles. She walks up to him and punches him so hard it knocks him off his chair. She grabs the champagne out of the bucket and sticks her hand in the ice. She walks out as Jack holds his jaw. She tells the waiter that he’ll pay for the bucket of ice.
Hazel is sitting at the table looking rather sad when Garry comes in. She looks at him and says, “alright, Garry love?” She asks him what’s wrong? He says, “what could possibly be wrong? She asks him if he has a minute, but he tells her he doesn’t.
Yolande comes into the laundrette looking for Dot. She’s not there, and the office is locked.
Hazel comes into the Vic looking for Minty. Phil tells Minty is in the loo, and he congratulates her. She’s upset that Minty told him. Phil tells her that she’s made Minty a happy man.
Ronnie comes in with her hand in the bucket. She leaves it on the counter, and Peggy wonders what it is. Ronnie tells her to consider it a moving back in the present. Ronnie takes a vodka shot and says, let’s liven the place up. She is reminded by Peggy she doesn’t work there anymore. Ronnie tells her she does now. She tells the girls at the bar to liven up this is a pub, not a morgue. She gives them all vodka shots on her.
Minty comes out of the loo and finds Hazel. He asks her how it went at the doctor’s. He says that he’s told Phil and Garry know, but he’ll come around. Minty tells Hazel that she’s made him so happy and all that matters now is that she is going to be a mummy and he’s going to be a daddy.
Dot hears a knock at the door and gets up to answer. It’s Yolande who comes in and asks if everything is alright.
Ronnie is drinking heavily. Peggy tells her to pace herself. Peggy asks her why the sudden change in plans. Ronnie tells her she doesn’t want to know. She walks through to go upstairs. Roxy is coming down, wearing Ronnie’s pink jumper. She wonders what Ronnie wants, possibly for her to drop dead? Ronnie looks at her and says, “help me, unpack?” Roxy hugs her.
Dot tells Yolande that everyone was able to leave a message for Jim, but she can’t seem to do it. She wonders what use she is? Yolande tells her not to be so hard on herself. Dot wonders how she is going to manage if she can’t do something so simple. Yolande wonders when she was going to tell her. The hospital needs the bed. His condition is not getting any better, but it’s not worse. They say he might have to go to a nursing home unless I feel up to looking after him. Yolande asks if she feels up to it? Dot doesn’t answer.
