December 29, 2019 Episode 1 (UK Original Air Date March 18, 2008)

Max is on the sofa as Tanya watches him. He sees her and asks what? She smiles and says, “nothing. It’s just good to have you back.” Max smiles.
Jane comes out of the Minut Mart as the line of people is watching the pressure washing of the spray-painted doors. They stop to let Jane pass. Steven walks up behind her, and she asks if he’s been looking for Lucy all night? He says he has. He says he found nothing. Inside, Ian is in with the police. He introduces them to Jane. He gives them photos. The police say they are looking and with her history. Ian says her history? The police tell him that she has gone missing and come back before. Ian loses it and says it was just one night with that idiot, Craig. He doesn’t think the police are doing enough and demands to have an Inspector General on the case now. The police assure him that they are doing everything they can. Peter says he’s going to talk to every single person in school. Steven glares down at Ian.
Minty comes in and asks if there has been any sign of her precious bird? Heather offers to help her look. Queenie says that she doesn’t need Heather’s help. It’s either Minty or the other ape that has her Pretty. Minty says he doesn’t know what Queenie is talking about. Queenie tells Heather she isn’t moving until she gets her bird back. She goes on to say that Heather knows what will happen if they try to push her out of the flat.
Steven tells Ian that he didn’t mention to the police about him hitting lucy, did he? Ian tells him it would only confuse the situation. Ian rushes Steven out the door as Jane comes in. Jane wonders what that was all about. Ian says nothing. Jane thinks Steven knows something. Ian tells her he doesn’t. She doesn’t believe him and thinks they are keeping her in the dark. Ian says it’s nothing like that. Ian says he has more parents to talk to down at the school.
Tanya comes into the club while Sean is stocking. She asks if he is the only one there? He says that it’s just him. Tanya says she’s been thinking and wonders what Sean is thinking? Sean tells her that he thinks that she’s had a good night’s rest, and she’s changed her mind. Tanya says that hse is calm and she has not changed her mind. He says, “do you have any idea how mad this is?” Tanya tells him that Max will never let her or the kids go. He’ll continue to lie and twist things in his favor. Sean tells her that no matter how bad it gets if she wants Max gone, she won’t do it as she hasn’t got it in her. She says she does. Sean says so “Max is gone. Abi and Lauren are in pieces, and the police are all over you. And we start playing happy family. It’s not going to work because you can’t handle it.” She tells him she can. Sean tells her that it’s a dream, and it would always be hanging over them. She tells him it’s all she’s got. Please, she begs him. He asks her what she wants from him? She tells him she wants his help.
Phil asks Shirley why she didn’t go have her biopsy? Shirley tells him she didn’t feel like it.
Zainab continues to play matchmaker for Shabnam and Jalil.
Tanya comes in to see Jane. She tells her she came to see if Lucy turned up. Jane says nothing yet. She motions to the new tv they ordered before they knew about Lucy. Tanya tells her that Lauren is grounded, but even so, she would not want her being out right now. Jane says she’s racked her brains on where Lucy might have gone but nothing. She searched her room, but it’s just full of events she’s been to with Steven. Tanya asks Jane if Steven knows anything? Jane says he says he doesn’t. Tanya asks if she believes him? Jane asks what she means? Tanya tells her it’s just after everything that has happened to her, can she trust him? Jane shakes her head and says he doesn’t know anything, it seems. Tanay makes a move to go, and Jane stops her and asks her to have a proper catch-up. She asks Tanya how everything is going with her and Max. Tanya tears up, and Jane asks if she’s ok. Tanya asks if she’s mad? Has she completely lost it? Jane says no, what’s going on? Tanya says she’s just silly as Janes got enough on her plate.
Sean is in the pub, and Stacey notices he seems upset. Stacey asks him what is going on. Sean asks Stacey if she wants the gossip? She says, yes. He tells her there is no gossip, and it’s time for everyone to get on with their lives. Stacey tells him she doesn’t want to hurt him, but it’s over with Tanya as she is back with Max. She tells him he needs to move on. It’s not like him to be all broody. She susses that he’s still seeing Tanya.
Shirley brings Queenie a drink called the Sour Old boiler, and she’s made special for her. Queenie has a go at her. Phil breaks them up. He tells Minty he better sort his future mother-in-law before someone strangles her.
Stacey can’t believe Sean is buying all the lies! She tells him it’s not enough for Max to have wormed his way back into Tanyas with all his lies. Now, Tanya, has him hanging on. When is he going to see that Tanya is just like Max? Sean tells her that Tanya loves him. Stacey laughs and tells him that she doesn’t love him; she’s just using him.
Shirley asks Phil for time off. He says if she wanted time off to go to the clinic, all she has to do is ask. She tells him she doesn’t want to go to the clinic, and she wants to go get bladdered. Phil offers to take Shirley to the dogs with him. Shirley banters with him, telling him she doesn’t like dogs. Phil says he doesn’t either, but he likes gambling, and she likes drinking. She says she wouldn’t be caught dead surrounded by a bunch of losers. He asks when she became such a stroppy cow? She says she doesn’t know, Mr. Chuckles. He tells her he’s leaving in five minutes
Shabnam lets Jalil know that her mum is setting up a nice meal for tonight. Jalil teases that he knows her mum is setting him up for a stint as a son-in-law. Shabnam protests, and he tells her he is only teasing her. He says he’s hoping to become Postman Pat one day.
Phil is in the car waiting, and Shirley jumps in. She says, “Take me to the races, Philip.”
Heather takes orders from her mum. Minty tells Heather its time for her mum to go. Heather says she’ll take care of her mom. Minty says she can go anytime she wants. Heather says it’s not so easy as her mum is blackmailing them for her cut of the $2000 pounds. If she doesn’t get her cut, she’ll grass them up to the magazine.
Phil pulls up to the clinic. Shirley tells him he’s very funny. Phil says, “Mr. Chuckles strikes again.” She tells him he can’t make her go in.
Sean is doing laundry when Tanya comes in. She spies his passport. She wonders what is going on? Sean tells her he’s leaving and going to Spain. If she wants to join him, he’ll be waiting. He says he loves her.
Shirley says to Phil: “The thing is, this hospital is the one her mum died in. It was a horrible, drawn-out thing. She vowed never to go into it again.” Phil calls her out on her lies. He says she’s so good at it that it is endearing. He tells her to go in.
Ian comes in and says that he’s talked to every parent. Nothing new. Jane says she’s been thinking, and she doesn’t want Ian to get angry. She wonders if Steven might have anything to do with Lucy disappearing? She wonders if she should talk to him. Ian tells her not to as she knows he can be volatile. He says they’ll just keep an eye on him.
Sean is heading into the tube. Tanya chases after him pushing Oscar in the pram. She tells him please she needs him. Sean tells her if she needs him, she’ll come to Spain. She begs him to stay, and if he loves her, he will. Sean tells her she always needs him. Is that all there is? She tells him if he leaves, then that is it for them. Tanya says that it was just all a fantasy them living in Spain with max’s kids. She tells him Max will hunt them down, and it will all be over. He’s never going to rest if she takes his kids. She begs him to stay and come talk to her tonight as Max will be out. Sean turns and walks away.
Tanya bumps into Jack. He asks if Max is alright and settling in? She says he is. Jack then asks if she’s alright? Tanya asks what is this? Jack says he’s just a bit confused. One minute Max is out; then he’s in. The divorce is on; then it’s off. Tanya says he knows what the deal is. Jack tells her he doesn’t buy it. Tanya tells him he can’t interrogate her like one of his villains. She walks away. Jack calls after her that he doesn’t buy it.
Jane comes out to talk to Stacey and asks for help. Jane says it’s about Lucy. Stacey wonders what she wants. Jane asks if she saw or heard anything at the party that might have made her go? Did Steven say anything? Stacey susses that Jane thinks Steven might have something to do with it. Jane tells her that is not it at all. Stacey wonders what it is then? Jane says it’s just something Ian said. Stacey tells her, “oh, so if Ian said it, then it must be true!” Stacey tells Jane that if anyone had done her the way Ian did Lucy screaming at her and dragging her through the square, she’d have run off too. Jane tells Stacey to forget she even said anything. She tells her she’s just panicking, you understand, right? Stacey tells her, not really. Jane walks away and doesn’t notice Steven on the other side of Stacey’s stall.
Phil comes to pick up Shirley. She tells him he didn’t need to wait. He asks if she is alright. She says it’s like she’s in prison. He tells her prison with her own personal chauffeur.
Shabnam and Jalil come in to find Shabnam leaving with Tam. She tells them they must have gotten their wires crossed as Tam has Parents Night. Jalil says it’s no big deal. Zainab says there is the food they could eat.
Stacey comes into the pub and sees Steven. She goes to talk to him about Jane, but he storms off, saying he already knows. Stacey sees Sean and his bags. She asks him if he’s leaving? He tells her he tried but he can’t.
Zainab pulls Shabs to the kitchen. She tells her that Tam left a casserole in the oven. Shabs tells her that it’s so embarrassing. Zainab tells her that if it was left to men to be romantic, the world would have ended.
Steven comes in and asks where his dad is. Jane tells him that he is upstairs sleeping. Steven asks if she thinks he had anything to do with lucy running away. She says no. He tells her that if anything goes wrong in this family, it’s always his fault. He tells her that he overheard her. Steven pushes her and says that you don’t trust me? She tells him no.
Sean slams his fist down on the bar. Max tells Sean that he’s wasted his day at the pub all day, but what else does he have going on in his life. Sean is angry but doesn’t take the bait from Max. Max tells him it’s different when you’ve got a family to support and go home to. What does Sean have? Nothing. Sean is angry as Max walks out the door.
Steven says that he called Jane and his Dad to tell them about Lucy trashing the house. That he did what he could to stop it and save the day. If she wants answers about why Lucy left, maybe she should talk to his dad. Jane wonders why. Steven tells him to forget it. Steven tells Jane that the night Lucy left, he hit her and knocked her down. Yeah. But it’s me you don’t trust.
Tamwar is angry; they have to eat chips. Zainab brings out a baby monitor so she can listen.
Queenie tells them not to change the channel. Minty confesses he took Pretty. Heather tells Minty she was going to give him all the money. She says that it wouldn’t matter what she did, Garry will never want her. Minty says there are thousands of men who would want her. He tells her he was going to tell her the same thing about the money. Heather tells Minty he’s the loveliest man she’s ever met. They almost kiss, but Queenie interrupts.
Shabs and Jalil plot to tell Zainab they are engaged. They have a bit of fun and his phone rings. It’s his girlfriend. Zainab turns off the monitor, and they head home. She comes in and announces they are home. She asks if they enjoyed their meal. He says the did. She says then he won’t mind doing the washing up. She grabs Shab’s face and inspects it thinking she heard kissing.
Sean comes busting into Tanya’s kitchen. She cries out, “thank god, and I thought you’d gone.” He tells her he couldn’t. She tells him that she just wants him to see it from her point of view. Sean says he can’t. He asks Tanya to explain. She tells him she has no choice. He tells her that everyone has a choice. She tells him that he’ll take her kids. She has no choice. Sean asks her how she’ll be able to look at them, knowing what she’s done. She tells him Max will take her kids from her if they try anything else. He’s always twisting everything, and he’s made her look bad to everyone. Sean says he can handle max. Tanay doesn’t believe there is any other way.
Shirley comes in, and thanks to Phil for today. He reminds her his mum has been through this and she could talk to her. Shirley tells him she doesn’t want anyone knowing. She tells him she’s really scared. He hugs her.
Tanya says that she thinks he’s controlling her. Like he knows what she’s going to do next.t She thinks Max knows what she is doing; maybe he wanted her to meet Sean tonight. She tells him he knows everything she’s doing. She tells him she slept with him, and now there may not be any way out for her. Sean tries to calm her. Tanya works to convince him that there is no way around it. She says she’s going to do it with or without him. She begs Sean not to make her do it on her own.
Jane asks Ian, “this morning, I asked you if there was something that caused Lucy to go. Then she asked him about this afternoon about Steven, and he implied it was down to Steven.” Ian tries to answer. Jane says Steven says Ian’s hit lucy. Is that true?
Tanya wants to know why Max is back early? He says he showed his face and thought, why is he here with these losers when he could be home with his lovely wife? She tells him she’ll just lock up and be right up. She opens the door, and Sean asks when? She tells him Friday night.
